On this day, the second annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities. Public acknowledgement of the heartbreaking history, continued effect, and intergenerational suffering of Canada’s residential school legacy is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
It is important on this day to not only acknowledge the horror of this history so that it is never repeated, but also to take the time to honour the beauty and resilience of Indigeneity, and to strengthen the bond with one another as we navigate this complex and meaningful day working together toward reconciliation.
