We are currently accepting applications for a full-time articling student for the 2027-2028 year.
Who We Are
Arbutus Law Group practices primarily in the field of Aboriginal Law – the area of Canadian law that applies to Indigenous peoples in Canada. We also assist our clients to incorporate their Indigenous laws, customs and legal orders into the work we do for them, when we are invited to do so.
Our primary focus is governance. We are not a litigation firm. We practice in a broad range of areas that fall under the governance focus, including: self-government; law and policy development; child and family services; environmental law; taxation initiatives; employment law; and non-profit and charity law. Much of our work is innovative, creative, and fast-paced.
We are a virtual firm, based in Victoria, with team members in Victoria, Vancouver and Brandon.
What We Offer
Articling students will work closely with members of our team and with clients on a range of files to ensure that they have a meaningful and worthwhile experience.
We offer a unique, flexible, supportive work arrangement that allows great work-life balance. Because we are a virtual firm, successful applicants can work from wherever they live in BC, but our preference is to hire an applicant who lives in or around Victoria or Vancouver to allow for in-person mentoring.
Articling students receive:
- salary throughout the articling term, including during PREP
- payment of PREP fees
- CBA membership
- eligibility for health benefits after 3 months
Eligibility Criteria
Preference is given to Indigenous applicants.
We’re looking for applicants with demonstrated passion and commitment to improving the lives of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Articling students must work well in a team environment and independently.
