Indigenous groups may negotiate and enter into Community Agreements with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) under section 92.1 of the Child, Family and Community Service Act. We have experience negotiating and drafting these agreements.
Community Agreements outline the roles, responsibilities, information sharing and operational procedures between the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Directors and Indigenous Community Designates. These agreements seek to ensure that Indigenous groups are meaningfully involved in all matters involving planning and decision-making for their children, youth and families under section 92.1 of the Child, Family and Community Service Act. Some Indigenous governments and communities view section 92.1 Community Agreements as the first step on their journey to the exercise of their inherent right of jurisdiction over their children and families.
Our work includes:
- negotiating, drafting, implementing and advising on section 92.1 Community Agreements in British Columbia with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD)
